To keep your hair extensions in the best condition possible it is important to follow the after-care advice;

Comfort:

For the first few nights that you wear hair extensions they may take a little getting used to when sleeping. It will be no more uncomforted however than if for example you have fallen asleep with a few hair slides in. It will however only take a few nights before you no longer notice the difference in feeling.

Brushing:

When brushing your hair always use a large soft bristle brush or a wide tooth comb. Never use a fine tooth comb because if this gets caught behind the connection point and you continue to comb it through then it will pull at the bond and may cause damage to your hair or pull the bond out.

Try to brush your extensions when they are dry. We recommend that you begin brushing at the ends of the hair, then move up to mid length and when you get close to the roots place your hand over the bonds to support them. At night time gently tie your hair back in a loose plait or twist, this will help to prevent tangles or knots.

Washing:

Your extensions can be washed as often as you would wash your natural hair.

When shampooing do not use circular/rubbing motions with your fingers, as this can tangle your hair. It could also put pressure on your bonds which could lead to damage. Use a gentle up and down ‘patting’ motions where you almost squeeze the shampoo through from roots to ends. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.We strongly recommend that you use non silicone based hair products.

Conditioning:

All hair needs conditioning whether natural or extensions. To condition we recommend that you use a good leave-in conditioner which keeps your hair soft. Avoid conditioners which contains alcohol as this leaves your hair dry.

Drying:

When drying your hair it is important to never rub or use a vigorous motion. Pat dry and comb through with your fingers. Always remember never use excessive force as this can cause loss of extensions.

Styling:

Hair dryers, straightening irons and curling tongs can be used as normal on the hair extensions.

Extensions can be cut and styled but when cutting please take into consideration where the bonds are so you do not get the hair cut in a way which will expose the bonds.

Dyeing the hair:

You can dye the extension hair but do a strand test first as different hair types dye differently. For instance, your own hair may not dye the same as the extension hair or the extension hair may not dye as expected.

You can however dye your roots as normal while extensions are in. The best way to do this is to dye around the hairline (where hair is seen if in a ponytail) and down the center parting. Usually this is the only hair seen, if however you wish to dye all of your roots then this is also possible but remember that the less stress and messing around done the better.

Swimming:

Swimming is possible as long as you make sure that your hair is washed properly afterwards as salt water or chlorine can dry out the hair as it does your natural hair.

If you are a regular swimmer we recommend that you wear a protective bathing cap.

General:

It is common with the micro ring technique to lose a few bonds when washing and brushing but this will not show as you will have anywhere from 100 to 200 bonds in your hair. Please do not be tempted to pick your bonds, this will cause them to fall out and may also cause damage to your hair.

Removal:

It is important to get your hair extensions removed by a qualified technician as trying to pull them out yourself can cause hair breakage. Proper removal is very quick, easy.

Important:

Your natural hair sheds on a daily basis as part of a natural process. It is normal to loose up to 50 hairs a day. Just because you have extensions in your hair doesn’t mean that this process stops, in fact it continues, but since your hair is held together by the extensions this stops your hair from shedding daily. So the hair that would normally shed is trapped in the installation and not falling out into your sink or latching on to your comb or brush as usual.

As a result when you remove your hair extensions, all of the normal hair shed is then released and it appears as though a lot of hair is coming out all at once. If you are wearing your hair extensions for 8 to 12 weeks, that’s up to 1,500 hairs that you have shed during this time naturally.
